A Registered Dietitian (RD) is a certified nutrition expert with at least a bachelor's degree (master's degree requirement as of 2024), completion of supervised clinical hours, and passage of a national exam. They provide personalized nutrition advice, manage medical conditions, and support weight management, sports nutrition, and eating disorders. Unlike the term "nutritionist," which is often unregulated and can be used without formal qualifications, RDs have strict educational and professional requirements. Seeing an RD ensures you receive evidence-based, tailored nutrition guidance from a qualified professional.

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are not therapists, but they do provide nutrition counseling, which is a specialized form of guidance focused on dietary and nutritional habits. Nutrition counseling involves assessing an individual's dietary intake, identifying areas for improvement, and developing personalized nutrition plans to support health goals, manage medical conditions, and promote overall well-being. This process includes education on healthy eating, behavior modification strategies, and ongoing support to help clients make sustainable dietary changes.

Alternatively, some insurance companies may reimburse visits with a registered dietitian if you submit a paid receipt. To increase the likelihood of reimbursement, consider asking your doctor to prescribe "nutrition counseling" for your specific condition before your first session. If these services are out of your price range, message me via the contact page, and let's work something out!

Intuitive eating is an evidence-based approach to eating that promotes a healthy relationship with food and body image by encouraging individuals to listen to their body's natural hunger and fullness cues. Developed by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch in the 1990s, intuitive eating involves ten principles that help individuals reject the diet mentality, honor their hunger, make peace with food, and respect their fullness. The approach emphasizes the importance of eating for physical rather than emotional reasons and encourages body respect and self-compassion. Intuitive eating aims to create a balanced and healthy approach to food without guilt or restriction.

Functional nutrition is a holistic approach to health that focuses on how food affects overall well-being and addresses the root causes of health issues rather than just symptoms. It emphasizes the use of whole, nutrient-dense foods and personalized dietary plans tailored to an individual's unique needs, considering factors like genetics, lifestyle, and environment. Functional nutrition practitioners often assess various aspects of a person's health, including digestion, immune function, hormone balance, and inflammation, to create a comprehensive plan that promotes optimal health and prevents chronic diseases. This approach integrates scientific research with individualized care to support long-term health and vitality.

Yes! Telehealth is a safe and secure form of telecommunication that allows for “virtual” video sessions from your phone or computer in the comfort of your home or office. Each session uses a unique link that ensures a secure connection every time. Telehealth sessions are the same rate as in-person sessions and offer flexibility during travel, illness, long-distance situations, or for simple convenience. However, telehealth can sometimes feel impersonal, so I encourage you to utilize both in-person and telehealth appointments as it suits your needs and convenience.
